How the Taj Mahal was built

Its construction started in 1632 AD and was completed in 1653 AD. Taj Mahal is the pride of India and the whole world considers it as a symbol of love. The Taj Mahal was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 1631 AD, Mumtaz died giving birth to her 14th daughter. Shah Jahan was deeply saddened by her death.

Construction of the Taj Mahal began shortly after Mumtaz death, but the construction of the main tomb was completed in 1948, and the surrounding buildings and gardens were completed five years later. This land belonged to Maharaja Jaisingh. Instead of giving him a huge palace in the middle of Agra, Shah Jahan bought the land. Since the land was on the banks of the Yamuna river, about 33 acres of land was excavated and soil was poured to reduce the erosion of the river. The entire area is raised about fifty meters above the river bank. Taj Mahal is 55 meters tall. Excavation of burial sites led to water, so they were filled with stones. The Taj Mahal was built with other precious materials from various parts of Asia and India. More than 1,000 elephants were used to carry construction materials during the construction work. White and shiny marble stones were brought from Rajasthan, red and brown colored stones were brought from Punjab and hard, white, green stones etc. were brought from China. Green and turquoise gems were brought from Tibet and sapphires were brought from Afghanistan. Sapphires The bright blue sapphires came from Sri Lanka and the Khayari or white colored gemstones were brought from Arabia. 28 types of precious stones and white marble are set on top. The main foundation structure of the Taj Mahal is huge and multi-lettered. Mumtaz and Shahjahan’s memorial plaques are placed in the main room and their graves are one level below. In history, the Taj Mahal stands as a symbol of love even today.
